Passion meets philanthropy and roaring engines, right in the heart of a Moroccan desert! 🖤

The 4L Trophy is a rally unlike any other. Each year, the event invites thousands of students and has them set off in their all-time classic Renault 4Ls to cross three countries and bring school supplies to help Morocco’s most underprivileged children.

Supported by The Red Cross Foundation and Enfants du Désert, the 4L Trophy is one of the biggest charity rally events on the planet. Displate is taking part in the 2023 edition by sponsoring crew #0485 – Hector Baron and Maxence Vuillefroy, or team Les Dromad'LR.

Together with nearly 1,500 other crews, Hector and Maxence will start their 4L Trophy rally on February 15th in the French town of Biarritz. Their 10-day humanitarian quest to Marrakech will cover nearly 6000 km of French and Spanish roads as well as Moroccan off-road tracks.🚗

Meet crew #0485 – Les Dromad’LR

Hector Baron, a future doctor, and Maxence Vuillefroy, a finance and economics student, are two friends from France who joined forces to help others and experience something unforgettable together.

With the support from Displate, they spent the last few months preparing for this year’s 4L Trophy and building their first ever moto crew almost from scratch.

How long have you prepared for this year’s rally?

Hector Baron and Maxence Vuillefroy: For us the preparation lasted a bit over a year. The search for funds to finance the adventure was long: we made events in bars, held stands in malls and during sports gatherings, even promoted our kitty and sold pens.

Finding sponsors also took time. Our biggest one is Displate. We both have Displate posters at home and we are proud to be supported by a company that is close to our hearts. This partnership allowed us to buy the car, so it was very important for us. We are convinced that Displate colors and this big logo on the hood will provide us a boost and make other participants curious!

What made you decide to join the 4L Trophy?

This is a very special race, in fact it is not a speed race, but rather an orientation race. The goal is to do as few kilometers as possible with just a road book, a map and a compass – no GPS is allowed. What also attracted us to this event is the fact that it is a humanitarian race. We all bring school, medical and sports equipment in collaboration with local associations whose main goal is to promote the education of children in Morocco.

What’s the most challenging part of your rally preparation?

Preparing the car. Although it’s an iconic car in France, a 1984 Renault 4L is not the first car you think of when you want to cross the desert. That's what makes this raid so special and that's also what makes it so difficult. It's an old, not very powerful car, so a lot of modifications and fittings had to be made to get it ready to go. Many mechanical parts have been changed, we have made interior fittings, added pressure gauges, etc. We had no previous knowledge of mechanics, so we had to learn and train ourselves. It’s exciting to know that this little car that we now know perfectly will take us to another continent!

What do you expect from this year’s 4L Trophy?

This will be a first for us, and like most participants, we’re in it for the unique experience it offers, be it before, during and after the raid. It’s already proven to be an enriching experience, and we learned a ton during our preparation. This is an opportunity to meet new people, to learn how to handle things, to find our way in the desert and to discover Morocco. We hope to grow from this adventure!
